Overview

[64Cu]FBP8 is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent consisting of a cyclic peptide (fibrin binding probe 8) labeled with the radioisotope copper-64. It is designed for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to detect and localize fibrin-rich blood clots (thrombi) throughout the body. The mechanism of action involves specific binding to fibrin within thrombi, enabling visualization and quantification of clot burden in conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and venous thromboembolism. The agent demonstrates rapid renal clearance and low background signal in non-target tissues. Developed primarily by The General Hospital Corp./Massachusetts General Hospital, it is being investigated for its ability to non-invasively image thrombosis and assess brain fibrin content in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease[2][4][6].
